This course covers an introduction to stone setting for silver jewellery using cabochon stones. Perfect for anyone who has had some previous experience with metal work or jewellery design and would like to explore their interest in stone setting. You will make at least one ring and one pendant to wear home at the end of workshop.
Suitable for people with some metal work / jewellery making experience. Small class size for a better learning experience.
Materials cost: $90 payable on the first morning of your class. Bring your own cabochon stones or purchase at cost price.

the steps to setting fundamentals of cabochon stones. During the workshop, you will also gain an understanding of silver’s properties, as well as the equipment and tools used to work with this precious metal.
In class, you will design and make your own jewellery pieces, beginning with a bezel setting for a cabochon stone in a ring and move on to your choice of a 2nd ring or pendant. You can expect to complete two pieces of finished jewellery.
At the end of this course, you will go home with a grounding in stone setting of cabochon cut stones as well as your ready-to-wear stone and silver jewellery pieces.
What to bring
- Pencil, paper and scissors
- $90 to tutor on the morning of class for materials
- Your own cabochon cut stones or cash to purchase stones at cost price
- Wear closed-in shoes, no loose clothing and tie up long hair
- Bring your own lunch
- Students need to be healthy and fit as a degree of hand strength and steadiness are required in silversmithing.
