Description
During the bushfires in the summer of 2019/20, locals experienced something that had previously been unimaginable—wilderness forests burning in intense forest fires, including precious tracts of Gondwana rainforest. I experienced the fires from our property in Stony Shoot near Nimbin, which is close to Terania Creek and Mt Nardi. The paintings in the ‘Fire’s On’ series are an exploration of one of the great challenges of our time – the impacts of climate on our natural landscape.
The painting is in acrylics on timber panel. I have layered colours, and collage of hand-painted and found papers in these works and I used drawing medium (pencils) and charcoal in the mark-making, to link to the remnants of the bush-fires. The painting is sealed using a satin varnish with some shine. The solid wood frame is Tasmanian Oak and the frame is secured with d-rings and a wire hanger on the reverse.
