This series of sculptural work was developed using salvaged hardwood timber from flood buy-back houses in Lismore following the 2022 floods.
‘Bough ‘n’ Beam’ was commissioned by the Living Lab Northern Rivers as part of the Circular Timber project, a collaborative research project with UTS Design exploring and re-imagining recovery for the regional community.
The artist’s brushes and ink pens were made from hardwoods including spotted gum and grey ironbark with assistance from Chainsaw Newton of Chinderah on the wood lathe. The brush materials were salvaged from rubbish and weed species including dandalions, bamboo. The ink pens were fitted with hand cut brass nibs.
The work was exhibited as part of the Circular Timber: From Salvage to Showcase exhibition in March 2025.
