Fires On Series
During the bushfires in the summer of 2019/20, locals experienced something that had previously been unimaginable—wilderness forests burning in intense forest fires, including precious tracts of Gondwana rainforest. I experienced the fires from our property in Stony Chute near Nimbin, which is close to Terania Creek and Mt Nardi. The areas on Beechmont Plateau and northern parts of Lamington National Park north of the border burnt, including the historic Binna Burra Lodge which was located on Mt Roberts. This place was also very dear to my heart.
The paintings in the ‘Fire’s On’ series are an exploration of one of the great challenges of our time – the impacts of climate on our natural landscape.
